Rain Dance

Thursday, February 6th, 2014

It’s raining! Hooray and phew!  Our rain dance worked!  Dance Fun

We had no plans after school today. However a client just sent me this great blog called “30 years of little girls learning dance moves from music videos”.  It’s funny, and really disturbing. I now know what we are going to do this afternoon. We’ll dance from our hearts in every way except those that the article so strikingly illustrates.

If you can’t remember dancing before twerking, here are some ideas: http://focusonfamilyfitness.com/dance-fever/

I sound like such a parent! :0)

Pole squats. Use anything, anywhere to play. Fitness is always there for us.  This family has been taking my class for two years and the little girl follows her mom around exercising. Guess who will crave exercise in the future?

To sweat is to pray

Friday, December 27th, 2013

On Monday, a dear friend died of lung cancer. She was the one who encouraged me to write my blog. She was the one who, despite a year of chemo, still rode her bike to feel better. She was the one who hiked with hip pain and danced – even without hair.

I learned this quote from her:

“To sweat is to pray, to make an offering of your innermost self. Sweat is holy water, prayer beads, pearls of liquid that release your past, anointing all your parts in a baptism by fire. Sweat burns karma, purifying body and soul. Sweat is an ancient and universal form of self-healing, whether done in the gym, the sauna, or the sweat lodge. I do it on the dance floor. The more you dance, the more you sweat. The more you sweat, the more you pray. The more you pray, the closer you come to ecstasy.”

When I talk about “Family Fitness”, I don’t just mean kids and their parents. I mean exercising, playing with and working out with friends who are family, and family who are like friends.  I hope over the two-week holiday craziness, you take many moments to find movement, dance and joy together.
